UPDATE: NEW FIRMWARE enables eprint. Now I can send print jobs to my printer from anywhere in the world! :)
<br/>The new firmware version is 20110826.<br/><br/>FIRST: A comment on AirPrint with iOS<br/><br/>This printer is capable of doing AirPrint from iOS 4.3 once the printer's firmware is updated.<br/><br/>I have tested with iOS 4.3 and HP CP1025NW Firmware version 20110512 which is available on HP's website. I bet it works with iOS 4.2 as well but have not tried. I do not know if AirPrint works with older firmware but I doubt it because the release notes said "enables airprint".<br/><br/>The link to HP's website doesn't always work and the firmware download page sometimes shows incorrect information. :( Also the release notes do not always show up correctly. BUT if you get a firmware file with "20110512" somewhere in the file name you got the right one.<br/><br/>The firmware cannot be updated using OSX, so you need to find yourself a windows computer, install the CP1025NW driver software package, then use the firmware update tool. The firmware update tool works over WiFi, which was a major plus for me.<br/><br/>This printer is also supposed to gain HP ePrint functionality with a future firmware upgrade, but that firmware was originally promised late 2010 so don't hold your breath. Multiple people have already complained about this delay on the HP forums, and some have suggested that the update may never arrive. Well the AirPrint update arrived even though it was never promised--so perhaps ePrint will arrive soon.<br/><br/>Firmware version 20110512 does NOT enable HP ePrint BUT does enable Apple AirPrint.<br/><br/>Some other observations on the printer:<br/><br/>1. The first page prints almost instantly, but there is a noticeable lag between the 1st and 2nd page. Quick-1-page-print is a touted feature but they don't really advertise that it comes at the cost of a delayed 2nd page!<br/><br/>2. By default, the printer "calibrates" the color every 48 hours, giving YOU delays in printing. I don't know why this procedure has to be repeated so often but it can be changed in the settings.<br/><br/>3. Unpacking was a bit weird, because they have two orange tabs (shipping protectors?) inside the printer that you must remove. The instructions were VERY clear but it was still a bit unnerving to reach in and yank out the orange tabs with brute force.
