Product Description

, Thule 593 Wheel-On Rooftop Bicycle Wheel Carrier ">, Thule Frame Adapter Strap or Hitch ">, Thule 970XT Helium 2 Bike Hitch Carrier ">, Thule 598 Criterium Upright Rooftop Bicycle Carrier ">, Product Description Easily carry up to two bikes whether you're driving across the country or simply heading to the trail with the Yakima DoubleDown 2 two-bike hitch mount-rack. The DoubleDown 2 is outfitted with a user-friendly TriggerFingers system, which lets you fold the mast easily out of the way when not in use. As a result, you won't have to take the rack off the car just to get a soda from the cooler. The rack also protects your bikes thanks to its standard SwitchBlade anti-sway cradle, which eliminates bike-to-bike contact. And thanks to the RocSteady hitch tongue, the DoubleDown 2 is extremely stable. Other details include narrow arms that fit a wide variety of frames, an integrated bottle opener, and a durable powder-coat finish. Compatible with 2-inch and 1-1/4-inch hitch receivers right out of the box, the DoubleDown 2 carries a limited lifetime warranty.

Very well made and sturdy. The quick release fold down works GREAT! 2 things Yakima should redesign: First, give the customer the option of using their own locking hitch pin (only Yakima's will fit). Using the included non-locking pin (that is threaded) involves using a wrench and lots of turning--not exactly quick release but not secure either. Secondly, as others have pointed out, the pivot point consists of a long bolt and nut that can be defeated easily by a ne'er-do-well evil-doer. The locking pin/cable combination sold as an accessory for this rack will not secure your bikes against loss--the only effective way is to use a long cable that goes from the bikes to the hitch itself. Five stars for the durable construcion and functionality, minus one each for the two serious design flaws. Would I buy it again? Probably, unless I found another one as well built that addressed these two problems.
